WDHB Maternity Birthing Suites Refurbishment

Aspec Interiors refurbished two birthing suite wards at Waitakere Hospital – Ward 3 (Te Henga) and Ward 4 (Piha). Delivered in two stages to ensure suites remained operational throughout, the works involved stripping and relining rooms, installing new ceilings and floor coverings, and reconfiguring layouts with upgraded services. What began as a straightforward scope became more complex, with challenges including maintaining a live hospital environment, addressing passive fire and asbestos issues, and incorporating seismic upgrades to ceilings and theatre lights. Despite these constraints, the project was successfully delivered to provide modernised, functional birthing facilities.
