Auckland War Memorial Museum – TP 2 & 3

Aspec Interiors undertook a major refurbishment of the Category A, heritage-listed Auckland War Memorial Museum. The works transformed public galleries, circulation areas, visitor amenities, retail and hospitality spaces, while also delivering new Research and Collections Management laboratories and Learning and Engagement facilities. The project extended across multiple levels, absorbing gallery and classroom spaces, conservation labs, the South Atrium, and South Entry, alongside extensive building services upgrades from basement to roof, including a new plant room.

Special finishes included fibrous plaster shields concealing services, Sonacoustic acoustic ceilings, traditionally laid terrazzo floors, solid bronze portals, and French-imported Barisol ceiling panels. Timber veneer fins and doors define the South Atrium, complementing the museum’s architectural character. Delivered within a complex, live environment, the refurbishment enhanced both visitor experience and museum operations while respecting the building’s heritage fabric.
