Diocesan School Performing Arts Centre
About the Project:
Aspec delivered a landmark two-phase performing arts development, constructed in multistorey concrete panel and steel frame. Phase 1 began with demolition of existing school buildings and reconfiguration of underground infrastructure to enable the new facility. The three-level building provides a suite of specialist learning spaces including two music classrooms, 15 practice rooms, dedicated orchestra and choir rooms, dance and drama studios with sprung floors, and a recording and percussion suite.
Phase 2 interfaces with the first stage through a shared atrium and delivers the main performance venue – a tiered 940-seat auditorium supported by backstage workrooms, change facilities, a green room, and a grand entrance. High-quality finishes are evident throughout, from AV infrastructure and acoustic ceilings to timber veneer panelling and curved acoustic reflectors. Externally, laser-cut aluminium screens, white brickwork, and graphic precast panels reference the site’s historic oak trees, while curtain walling and composite cladding complete the contemporary architectural statement.
